The lost symbol by Dan Brown

I have been reading the lost symbol by Dan Brown. Once again the main character Robert Langdon manage to get in trouble and ends up in a new horrifying and exciting adventure, this time in Washington D.C. Robert Langdon is talked in to giving a lecture in Washington. Once there Robert finds out that his old mentor Peter Solomon from his time in school has been kidnapped. Robert starts to investigate the kidnapping but he ends up being chased by the CIA with an important artefact in his possession. To save Peter Solomon’s life he must take the artefact to the kidnapper.
When I was reading I started to think about all secret societies and places Dan Brown mentions in the book. In this book he especially writes about rituals and other things within the freemasonry. It is very exciting to read because he describes in detail, for example symbols placed in different buildings and monuments in Washington. When you read this you start to wonder if it is all true or something he just makes up. In the book Robert Langdon finds symbols and hidden messages in existing buildings throughout Washington. These symbols are said to exist in reality, is this just a coincident or is there a truth behind all this? There are many questions that pop up in your mind while reading.  Maybe he is using conspiracy theories as the base for his books. I on the other hand want to believe that there is a truth behind all this. That there are lost symbols out there to guide you to secret places made by your ancestors. It´s said in the book that only those who manage to crack these codes and symbols are proven worthy a place in the society. If this really is invented after all, he has certainly managed to write it in a very captivating way. Because you really become captured by the book from page one and all the way to the end. Personally this is the sort of book I really like.

The story of STUFF

I thought this video clip was very interesting, it really triggers you to stop for a few minutes and think. I mean when you think about everything Annie Leonard talked about you slowly start to realize how you have been scammed and brainwashed by the big companies. They make you believe that the things you have are old and you can´t keep them anymore. So you throw them out and walk to the store to buy new products, of the latest version of course.  Even though the ones you had were perfectly fine. How stupid this may be, you still have to agree that the companies are very smart tricking people into continuously buying new products for such a long time. They have really succeeded to secure their own income.

We can ask ourselves why more people do not do anything about this big problem; it is not like we did not know about it before. We hear about it almost every day. I think that the problem is not that we don´t know how to start to live more eco-friendly. No, the problem is that we are lazy.  I mean haven´t you thought at least once “what difference can I make” I know that I have. This is really the main problem, if everyone walks around thinking that they cannot make a difference we wouldn´t get very far would we?
Luckily for us there are people out there who have devoted their whole lives to a more eco-friendly planet and hopefully they are a big inspiration to others.

Snooping Bosses

I really became mad when I read this article. It’s sick that bosses in big companies even are allowed to track their employees when they´re not working. That we even have the technology to spy on people by using GPS tracking systems, or supervise their blogs, facebook account and even their e-mail accounts it’s just frightening. My opinion is that outside your work you can do whatever you want. Of course you shouldn’t do anything illegal, but as long as your spare time doesn’t affect your work I think it´s okay. Most off the employees in the article I must say was very stupid. Using your work computer to visit porn sites are not a very good idea. When you’re at work I think it’s okay to have some sort of surveillance. Maybe a program that blocks certain internet pages, but it´s not okay to monitor your staff just to see how long they are on the phone or if they wash their hands after using the toilet that is taking it to far. I think many employees would work better if their bosses trusted them more and didn´t monitor their every move. Then the employees would feel better and also work better.  People need to feel independent even when they´re working.
