Snooping Bosses
I really became mad when I read this article. It’s sick that bosses in big companies even are allowed to track their employees when they´re not working. That we even have the technology to spy on people by using GPS tracking systems, or supervise their blogs, facebook account and even their e-mail accounts it’s just frightening. My opinion is that outside your work you can do whatever you want. Of course you shouldn’t do anything illegal, but as long as your spare time doesn’t affect your work I think it´s okay. Most off the employees in the article I must say was very stupid. Using your work computer to visit porn sites are not a very good idea. When you’re at work I think it’s okay to have some sort of surveillance. Maybe a program that blocks certain internet pages, but it´s not okay to monitor your staff just to see how long they are on the phone or if they wash their hands after using the toilet that is taking it to far. I think many employees would work better if their bosses trusted them more and didn´t monitor their every move. Then the employees would feel better and also work better. People need to feel independent even when they´re working.
Hi Robin!
SvaraRaderaI agree with you. I don’t like that bosses could supervised the employees at the spare time. But I think it is ok that the bosses can read blogs or Facebook comments that the employees write. Because you know that everything you write on Facebook or your blog can be read by everyone.
In “Snooping Bosses” one employee said he was sick and then was on vacation with his family. But imagine yourself that you said to your boss that you are sick and then wrote in your blog or on Facebook that you are going on vacation and your boss read it. Is that ok?

Hey!
SvaraRaderaI think there are some interesting ideas you are presenting and I would agree with you, but
When an employer makes use of GPS in the employee's car, I assume that it is the company car and should not be used in private matters. To think that the employees would do a better job if the where not monitored by the bosses is just wishful thinking. Everyone knows that it is in our nature to do as little as possible to get as much as possible back.
This is why I think monitoring of our work habits is something we have to get used to.

Hi Robin,
SvaraRaderaI think your blog entry ends off nicely with you saying that all this monitoring would be unnecessary if the relationship between the employer and the employees was based on trust instead of control. I agree, in a perfect world this would be the right way to go. I guess it all depends on one’s belief in the goodness of mankind. Either you think that people are hard working even when they know that they are not monitored or you believe that people are lazy by nature and need to be put under the whip. Personally I agree with you. If the employees are stimulated and feel happy when going to work in the morning, they are automatically hard working.
